Camp Reblu

Camp Reblu is a new office building in Hongdae, thoughtfully redeveloped from a beloved old hostel that once welcomed travelers from all over the world. The design gently connects the past and present, blending the building’s signature blue concrete with soft ivory terracotta tiles. It stands as a warm, timeless landmark that carries memories forward while embracing the lively spirit of Seoul.

캠프 리블루(Camp Reblu)는 오랫동안 전 세계 여행자들의 추억이 머물렀던 홍대의 호스텔을 따뜻한 시선으로 새롭게 재해석한 사무실 신축 프로젝트입니다. 상징적인 푸른 콘크리트와 부드러운 아이보리 테라코타 타일의 조화를 통해 과거와 현재를 자연스럽게 잇는 디자인을 완성했습니다. 시간의 흔적과 홍대의 생동감을 함께 품은, 따뜻하고도 새로운 랜드마크입니다.

“Camp Reblu was originally Blu Guesthouse, a place where countless people shared time and stories together. Though it has now been transformed into a new office building, I hope that those who once stayed here can return someday and feel the warmth of their memories again. It would mean a lot if this space could still hold a small piece of their journeys.”

“캠프 리블루(Camp Reblu)”는 원래 수많은 사람들이 시간을 함께 보내고 이야기를 나누던 공간, 블루게스트하우스(Blue Guesthouse)였습니다. 지금은 새로운 오피스 빌딩으로 변했지만, 이곳에 머물렀던 분들이 언젠가 다시 찾아와 그때의 따뜻한 기억을 느낄 수 있기를 바랍니다. 이 공간이 그들의 여정 중 작은 한 조각이라도 간직하고 있다면, 그보다 더 의미 있는 일은 없을 것입니다.”

He loved it so deeply that he had it tattooed — a mark of his dream to create a small universe for travelers.

They were nights where musicians found their stage, and travelers found memories that would stay long after their journey.

In this lounge, travelers came down after a long day to talk, laugh, and share their journeys.
Strangers became friends, and new adventures began — it was the heart of Blue Guesthouse.

01. Remembering the Blue —

The Beginning of Camp Reblu

‘Camp Reblu’ is located in the vibrant Hongdae district of Seoul and is a redevelopment of a former hostel that had been a hub for young backpackers and international visitors for over two decades. The original building, once known as Blu Guesthouse, with its distinctive blue walls and exposed concrete structure, became one of the area’s first-generation hostels and a beloved place filled with memories from around the world.
The goal of the new development was to preserve the spirit of this iconic space — allowing those who once stayed here to revisit, reconnect, and rediscover the warmth of their memories through subtle traces of the building’s original identity.

‘캠프 리블루(Camp Reblu)’는 서울 홍대의 중심에 위치한 프로젝트로, 20여 년간 전 세계 배낭여행객과 젊은 여행자들이 머물던 **블루 게스트하우스(Blu Guesthouse)**를 새롭게 재해석한 사무실 신축 건축입니다. 푸른 콘크리트와 노출 구조로 이루어진 원래의 건물은 당시 홍대의 상징적인 호스텔 중 하나로, 수많은 이들에게 잊지 못할 기억을 남겼습니다.
새로운 개발의 목표는 이 상징적인 공간의 ‘정서’를 보존하는 것이었으며, 이곳을 찾았던 이들이 다시 방문했을 때, 건물의 흔적 속에서 과거의 기억과 따뜻한 시간을 되새길 수 있도록 하는 것이었습니다.

02. Between Past and Present — A Dialogue in Form and Material

새로운 디자인은 과거와 현재의 대화를 이어갑니다.
한때 푸르게 칠해졌던 콘크리트 구조는 이제 세련된 테라코타 타일로 감싸져, 건물의 ‘진화’를 상징합니다. 두 개의 매스가 건축적 구성을 이루는데, 하나는 거친 스투코 마감과 드러난 푸른 콘크리트로 과거를 표현하고, 다른 하나는 부드러운 아이보리 테라코타 타일로 곡선을 이루며 미래를 향합니다.
거리에서는 단단한 테라코타 입면만 보이지만, 입구에 가까워질수록 푸른 콘크리트가 드러나며 의외의 순간을 연출합니다. 두 매스는 좁은 복도를 사이에 두고 마주하며, 내부의 테라스는 안쪽으로 향해 작은 마당 같은 아늑한 분위기를 만들어냅니다.
1~3층은 활기찬 거리와 맞닿은 F&B 및 리테일 공간으로 구성되어 있고, 4~8층은 약 50㎡ 규모의 소규모 오피스로, 테라스와 휴게공간, 필수 편의시설을 갖추어 스타트업과 소규모 팀에 적합하게 계획되었습니다.
지하 9m 깊이의 공간은 공연이나 스튜디오로 활용 가능한 독립적인 공간으로, 홍대 지역에서 드물게 확보된 예술적 활용도를 자랑합니다.
중층부에는 관리공간과 추가 사무실이, 옥상에는 홍대 전경을 360도로 조망할 수 있는 루프탑이 마련되어 휴식과 이벤트 공간으로 기능합니다.

The Logo Story The logo reinterprets the 'R' of Reblu as an inverted Korean character 'ㅂ' — a quiet nod to the original 'Blue' guesthouse. More than a design choice, it's an act of remembrance: carrying the spirit of that first gathering place into everything Reblu builds today.

로고 스토리 이 로고는 Reblu의 'R'을 한글 'ㅂ'을 뒤집은 형태로 표현했습니다. 과거 '블루' 게스트하우스와의 연대를 다시 한번 새기며, 그 기억과 정신을 현재로 이어옵니다.

Completing Camp Reblu was more than finishing a building — it was about giving new life to a place filled with memories. Each layer of material carries traces of the past, quietly connecting what once was with what now stands. During the process, I often thought about the countless travelers who once shared stories here. I hope they can return one day and still feel something familiar in this new space. For me, this project became a gentle reminder that architecture can hold time, memory, and emotion all at once.

캠프 리블루(Camp Reblu)의 완성은 단순한 건축의 완공이 아니라, 기억이 깃든 공간에 새로운 생명을 불어넣는 일이었습니다. 재료의 한 겹 한 겹에는 과거의 흔적이 남아 있고, 그것이 지금의 형태와 조용히 맞닿아 있습니다. 작업 내내 이곳에서 머물렀던 수많은 여행자들과 그들의 이야기를 자주 떠올렸습니다.

언젠가 그들이 다시 찾아와 이 새로운 공간 속에서도 익숙한 온기를 느낄 수 있기를 바랍니다. 이 프로젝트는 건축이 시간과 기억, 그리고 감정을 함께 담을 수 있다는 사실을 다시금 일깨워준 작업이었습니다.

Within them, countless beings live alongside one another — each with their own language, their own way of communicating. But what holds them all together isn't words or signals. It's the environment itself: something that exists like air, like the space between.

When you live inside it, you can't see the blue. Yet it surrounds you. And within it, connection happens — not through explanation, but through feeling.

That is the space Camp Reblu is here to create.
